Since you can actually run into the Sorcerer when visiting Buma, before going to Sol, it's kind of hard to determine whether it's an upgrade or downgrade from the Sage by appearance. Either way, it's placed here as an upgraded form since it is supposed to be seen after the Sage.
Another reason it's harder to determine if it's an upgrade or downgrade is because they both have the same special attack, Void Accessories, which removes your items from being equipped.
