There is nothing about Auron that would make him a top-tier fighter. He has nothing going for him to place him above so many others. He's pretty low on the fighting skill scale >_>

Well Sephiroth was destined to lose to Cloud because he's the baddy and Cloud's the good guy

And Cloud doesn't seem to be the kinda protagonist that would die at the end (like an anti-hero)
