K is right, games are just as good now as they were before. They're better, actually, what with bigger teams, budgets and more advanced technology.

And from what I see, walnutz, it seems like you don't like this gen's games because you DON'T WANT TO. I can see what you mean with PS2, GBA, etc all having great games. Every system does, even today's. But, again, that nostalgia plays a part in it. You're more likely to have fond memories of games that "raised you" than games that you just play for fun.

Again, TRY the games I've mentioned, and many more. There are so many developers out there making great games of all kinds, and like I said, if you think the graphics focus brought us down, go play indie games.

You know what? Give me 5 (or w/e number) of reasons why today's games are terrible, in your opinion. I'd be glad to show you counterexamples and shut your list down :P

As a child, we have a blast and our imagination is much better than when we grow older - therefore the classic games are "better" to us, no matter what. Kids now days will say the games they play today are way better than the games 10 years from now. It's just imagination playing it's role.

If you actually compare the story lines, design of the games, controls, menu's, etc. You'll see that they're still very well done, if not better, in today's standards. Yes, graphics play a huge role in the industry, but they always have. I remember when the PS1 and N64 were in the market... My friends and I still talked about graphics ALL the time, along with the gameplay of course. It's really as soon as 3D came into play that graphics were something people started paying attention to.

What I'm getting at is you need to open your mind more, play with a real imagination... imagine yourself as that character - it'll be much harder than when you were younger. If you find a way to immerse yourself in the game, you'll find that many games today are just as good, if not better, than the games in the past.
I am a artist. (Illustrator)

I never lost my imagination. Most people who are artist never really lose their imagination, which is why we are always seperated from society to socialize etc with other artist like us. Not trying to take anything away from your statement, but yeah. For me its not so much as the graphics but the content behind the games.
