Emulation troubles

Post by Soren Highwind » Fri Apr 20, 2012 9:08 pm

Hi! I'm new here, obviously. I came here because I'm having some pretty bad emulation troubles and I'm not sure where else to turn.

I've been running a screenshot Let's Play of this game for the past five months or so, and up until now things have been going pretty well! But I've run into a snag that could potentially stop the LP for a while unless I fix it.

You see, I've been emulating this game using pSX, and it's worked just fine, but I've run into a problem: whenever I try watching the cutscene that shows Vahn and co. going to the past version of Conkram, the game freezes and the music starts stuttering before stopping completely.

I've looked on the pSX forums, and apparently the solution is to convert either the memory card or the save-file to the PAL region (or something along those lines), play through the cutscene, and then convert the memory card back to the NA region. I can't just skip the cutscene or else I won't be able to get any screenshots of it, so I need to do this whole conversion thing myself.

Does anyone know how to do this? The thread where I found this didn't actually say how to do it; the mods just did the conversion themselves, and the thread (possibly the forum itself, as far as I know) hasn't been active for three years. I'm not very technically-minded, so if anyone willing to help could give me step-by-step instructions (or anything at all, really), I'd greatly appreciate it. I apologize if anyone is confused, but the pSX forums aren't working right now for some reason so I can't link to the thread where I found this information; I'll try to do that as soon as I can.

If anyone out there can help me, I'd appreciate it; this LP is important to me, and I don't want it to be abandoned because of a glitch. If no one knows the solution, that's fine, too; I'll get my friend to mail me his Playstation, order a capture card for the TV and play through the 野菜 game again if I have to.

Thank you for your time.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with that emulator myself. I've only used epsxe because it's worked perfectly for everything and has many mods if you're interested in them. Have you tried to load the games onto epsxe to see if they'll run? If so you should avoid your problem that way.

EDIT: I posted a bunch of nonsense here earlier, but it turns out you're right - I checked the pSX forums again, and it turns out I could just change the extension of the save-file to .mcr so epsxe could read it, then play through the cutscene. That way I wouldn't have to do anything ridiculous like hunt for a PAL copy online!

The problem, though, is that I have no idea how to set up epsxe. Like, at all. Way back when I first downloaded it I messed with plugins and options and whatnot for over an hour, but I couldn't get any game to run, much less Legend of Legaia. Would you mind giving me a tutorial on how to set everything up? I would be greatly indebted to you if you did. If not I'll try to find a tutorial online or something, but I'm really hoping that isn't the case.

Again, thank you for your time.

Thank you so much for helping me with this. I was going to anyway, but I'll be sure to credit you and this website once I'm done with the LP. I really owe you one. =D
