Well, that, or because it's interesting from a number theory perspective.

I never did get a chance to take a class in number theory. It sounds like it would be pretty interesting. Most of my advanced mathematics training is in simulation and optimization, as well as numerical methods. At least, that's what I focus on, although with some amount of topology and set theory tacked on.

I use to do so well in math... Then I start fooling around... And when I wanna get serious I have no idea what's going on

Well, it's just a matter of being able to count to 7 and to 15.

In binary:

1 = 0001 (0*8 + 0*4 + 0*2 + 1*1)
2 = 0010 (0*8 + 0*4 + 1*2 + 0*1)
3 = 0011
4 = 0100
5 = 0101
6 = 0110
7 = 0111
8 = 1000
9 = 1001
10 = 1010
11 = 1011
12 = 1100
13 = 1101
14 = 1110
15 = 1111

Don't forget zero = 0000.

After you've memorized the binary (the easy part, I suppose) we can move onto translating that into hexidecimal... LEMME KNOW WHEN READY!
