Your dog stops giving you dead animals, right as soon as a horrible infestation of mutant rats begins. These mutant rats metabolize metal and crave the metal in your house, especially your plumbing. Once your dimwitted but noble protector, now your dog is much more laid back. He lies on his belly with his head upsidown watching rats march along the floor when you are away, slowly dismantling your house. Doggy is cool with it and gives a big apathetic yawn as he watches them.
