Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
Re: Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
I have an Avermedia DvD Ezmaker 7 capture card, it's very cheap. You just need a splitter and two extra composite cables. Total is like 45 or so.

Re: Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
My budget is about $125 for everything, including the splitter, cables, and capture card. I can probably see about a composite cable splitter and the actual cables locally, but I'm not sure if it would be easy to find a capture card that can capture 240p signals - a lot of cards on the market can't capture below 480p.

Re: Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
Anyway, I managed to get some composite cable splitters and a capture card. I still need to download some software and get some stuff set up in the interim, but I intend to stream a full run of the game, single-segment. My time estimate is going to be around 11 hours start to finish, and I will probably be running it on Saturday, Feb. 21 (two weeks from today) from 10:00 AM MST until 9:00 PM or so, but it might be the 28th instead.
(Despite posting 8:40, I'm going to be running this all in one sitting without going back to redo bad parts of the run, which means I'll need to do some more level grinding and employ some safer strategies to avoid getting party wiped. Plus, there's load and lag times as well, so it'll be somewhat longer than eight and a half hours; I'm planning on eleven just in case things go awry.)

Well, as I said, it'll be closer to an 11 hour video. Thankfully, I have about 520 GB of hard disk space, and even a video of that length won't be more than 25 GB or so, since it's SD footage.

Re: Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
Anyway, just as an update, my plan is to stream a full-game speedrun on Saturday, February 28 (that's two weeks from this Saturday), if anyone is interested in watching.
I'll be streaming at: http://www.twitch.tv/driftingskies
My intention is that I will be starting at about 10:00 to 10:30 MST (12:30 EST, 5:30 GMT) for anyone who wants to see me attempt to take the world record for fastest completion of the game back.
Also, for those interested in helping me do some stream debugging and getting all the stream broadcast set up, I am going to do some practice attempts with the slots and trying out some strategies on Berserker and Zeto this upcoming Sunday, 2/15, probably at 1:30 MST or thereabouts.
(Obligatory disclaimer: I did ask and get permission from K7 to post this.)

I'll watch it for an hour or two. I'm afraid I don't have time to watch you play for the full 11 hours or so.

Re: Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
Psh, as soon as I get back from vacation, ill watch the entire thing! I might take breaks in between but I cant wait honestly!

Re: Legend of Legaia Speedrunning.
Anyway, I got the stream set up this evening and did a little testing. Good news and bad news to report.
Good news: Stream seems to be up and working fine.
Bad news: My video splitters are introducing about 2-3 frames worth of latency, which is throwing off my slot machine timing, so I will need to practice and re-learn the slots (I do have a potential backup which will involve the stream going down for about 2 seconds a couple of times - this will involve having to pull the video cable out of the splitter directly into the capture card, meaning I'll have no video feed to my TV and I'll be trying to play directly off my stream preview.) by the time I stream the full-game run.
So:
This Sunday at 1:30 MST I will be streaming a speedrun through Zeto, single-segment. No recording, unfortunately, but I should be able to archive the stream to YouTube.
