Re: Item Drops & Steals
Do you know if there are other factors that affect the base rate, or is the steal chance you've listed absolute? I seem to steal less with Noa than the others, but I don't know if that's my confirmation bias talking or if there's actually something to that.
Do not question yourself with the why or the how. I simply am, and that is all you need to know.
Re: Item Drops & Steals
No no, not drop, steal only. I have yet to find the drop table. If my emulator wasn't broken and allowed me to set breakpoints on assembly lines and not memory only, I'd find it right away!xTrance wrote:5% drop for waters? About what I was guessing. Strongly discourages water farming.
I got lucky with my 2 crimson books, that's for sure. 3% is very low.
Now that I have found the table, I will simply breakpoint one of the steal chances in memory and I can find the formula. I always wondered if Bronze Book also helped steal chance as well as drops. I have to help a buddy change his car springs but hopefully I'll be home tonight to try!Nightshade wrote:Do you know if there are other factors that affect the base rate, or is the steal chance you've listed absolute? Dang I wish I fought Lapis 100 times to get that Miracle water. What's up with Cort dropping Meta??? Must be versions of Cort not in the game? Very nice job, such a detailed steal list. This shows why getting my INT to max is taking an eternity 'dizzy.

Re: Item Drops & Steals
Yeah there are 5 extra versions of Cort in the game data. All are separate entities but have the same stats, just different stealable items. Looks to me like they were copy pasting
Hrm, farming water with a 5% steal rate is no good. When I find the drop table, I'll see if anyone drops the waters at a higher rate or not.
Has anyone tried doing debug mode on an actual playstation? I would like to know if Battles 187-200 crash the game.

I don't know about debug mode. But I have a suspicion that INT affects the steal rate, which is why I was asking.

Re: Item Drops & Steals
Nope, does not seem so. Looks like the steal chance is just that, an RNG of 0-100 and a check if it's lower than the steal % from the item. The same for all characters, and tried it with 999 INT.
But here's the thing, the game does have one calculation that look like it was designed for an amplifier to steal. Whether or not it's in the game is uncertain but I see it takes the base steal % and multiplies it by 1. That number may have been meant for an accessory that boosts your steal % by 2 or 3! I tried using Ivory Book, Good Luck Bell, 2xEvil God Icons, etc...nothing would change that x1.
Also ended that rumor about using arts to finish enemies and what not. The game doesn't even calculate if you steal an item until JUST before the monster sinks underground.

Re: Item Drops & Steals
Great news everyone! (said like in futurama) I found the item drop "table".
Turns out they do not have one, but instead, have each drop item and % as part of the monster's stats. Testing it out I was finding drop item percents for Oak Slimes, Killer Bisons, and Poisonous Worms since that's where I was on the world map. Their items were 8-9%. Problem with this not being in a table is, I'll have to play each battle and grab the values. I tried looking in the rom files, but it seems to be stored different than how it is loaded into memory.
One side note, I happened to be wearing a Bronze Book and found it adds 30% drop rate to all items dropped after battle.
I'll have to compile a list tomorrow perhaps, but for now, sleeeep.

Re: Item Drops & Steals
By "adds a 30% factor to the drop rate", do you mean that a 1% chance becomes a 1.3% chance, or a 31% chance? It seems like it should be the second just based on personal experience.
Do not question yourself with the why or the how. I simply am, and that is all you need to know.
Re: Item Drops & Steals
Yup 1% + 30% is 31% when I say adds 30%. When I finally found this, I was thrown off by the game adding a flat 30% on top of it. "Why the the the the the would they do that and not just adjust their numbers??" But it was 3am and I failed to realize I was wearing a bronze book ^_^
