I've been able to beat the Master course around L42, and do so right after beating Jette in the Absolute Fortress.

Equip the following accessories:
Life Grail
Defender Chain
Wonder Amulet.

The Life Grail will be your only source of healing. The Wonder Amulet blocks the status ailments such as Stone from Zora, Rot from Berserker, and Venom from both Zeto and Dohati. Basically, you have to play very defensively. Spirit liberally, and you should be able to block enough attacks from Zora and Jette such that you can start gaining a bit of HP each turn. If you have at least 2000 HP and 100 AP, fire off a miracle art. It takes awhile since you need to let Zora and Jette burn up their MP using their specials, but they'll eventually get to the point where they only use physical attacks. It takes awhile (an hour and a half to two hours) to finish the master course, but it's very doable and far less monotonous than 5-6 hours of fishing. It's still your call though.

Obviously, Magic Grail isn't going to help you since you can't use Magic in the Master Course. You only get Spirit and attacking. Hence why I gave my strategy - it's the only way to win without needing to get to some absurd level like 60 or so. And give all your stat boosting waters to Vahn as well - he's going to need them more than the other two.

Sure, you don't NEED a War God Icon, but it's certainly nice to have. Combined with Mettle Goblet or Mettle Gem, you can perform two Miracle Arts in the same turn!

I've gotten the fishing one at least 3 times now and 2 times were as soon as Vidna fishing spot became available. By the time you can get the fighting one the game is basically over but getting the fishing one when you reach Vidna you still have over half the game left. Besides I love the fishing mini-game so not a huge deal to sit there and fish for a few hours or more. The only thing I have yet to do is max all seru magic...I've never even really came close, it's so monotonous for me.
