I'm guessing you're saying people whine too much or are too peppy or let emotions get in the way of logic or whatever. First of all, that's a generalization that you can't prove or disprove and you're using it to fuel your argument. That doesn't make your argument untouchable/correct. If anything, it makes your argument weak because you're relying on an opposition that doesn't exist.
Second, having your emotions under control does not mean you hardly ever express them or anything like that. It's natural to cry when you're upset by something. It's natural to smile and laugh when something makes you happy. It's natural to grit your teeth and clench your fist when somebody pisses you off. Really they're only not under control when you're expressing an emotion that doesn't match the stimuli or the circumstances or you let them consume you so much that they affect your actions and end up as a detriment to something/someone.

Nobody is. They may express happiness/sadness/anger/fear/whatever a majority of the time, but that doesn't mean they're using their emotions wrong. That all seems natural because that's the norm defined by society. They way I see it, Emotions are more meant to be used as a natural defense mechanism rather than something you do because "MJ burned my jacket and now I cry." >____>

Emotions are too used now a days and because of it, it clouds judgement and logical thinking. The reason people do stupid things like tattoo their tongues or agree to to go Mars in a suicide mission. I believe you people call it "heat of the moment".
Why crimes of passion happen. Why people want to kill other people. Why meaningless hatred occurs. Because people don't know how to control their feelers.
A more logical time to use emotions is when, say, someone is in need of help mental wise and desperately require a good dosage of Empathy or motivating words. Or when you need a boost in strength or will (determination, eagerness, sheer joy, etc). That's when emotions are required. Not because someone died and now I must cry over it. It happened. You can't do anything about that. Don't waste precious time crying and mourning over something as meaningless as death.
My personality has developed through observation, thought, and opinions. Emotions played a nice role in opinions and preferences, seeing how it's a big part of it no matter how you look at it.

The way happiness should be used:
As a method to congratulate yourself over a victory, or after hard work. As a way to tell your tired muscles and mind "good work, it was worth it."
Unnecessary Sadness == Society's fault.
Way sadness should be used:
This could go anywhere. It can either be used as a form of joy or a way to withstand pain, depending on the context of the sentence. For example:
Listening to Ailee's Rainy Days during a really rainy day. The sad tone of the song stimulates a sort of joy. It makes you sort of want to cry with a smile; a cry of satisfactions.
Crying (which I do consider a form of sadness) when you're in pain is also very appropriate. Along with a loud scream. It helps relieve pain. After a bit of crying, you might get over it way faster. But you're still a punk for crying.
Anger == N/A
... I really can't give you an answer for this one... I've been researching it for years. It's the only emotion I have problems keeping under control- regardless of this fact it's still doable. But anger is a very dangerous emotion. I like to keep it locked up until I need an extra boost in combat. But I certainly don't let it all out; that's suicide and most likely homicide due to the amount I have yeah that's right government, you read that right.
Seriously, this emotion is powerful. It's the easiest to fall into. Even now I feel some form of crave for it. Like I always want to be angry and only angry. But that's 何だよこれ! and I refuse to fall to such a weak status.

Completely meaningless. Personally I use it to provide a cover for what I'm actually thinking. But this isn't a required feeling. There is no such thing as being better than anyone else. Someone always has an edge. Every story always has some truth to it. There's a truth to every lie.
Basically alot of emotions are a form of instant gratification. People drink because it makes them happy/helps them forget the bad. How many drunks do you see with a full fledged frown on their face? They're either happy or angry because they enjoy those raw emotions. People who do bad things based off rage that I have met rarely regret things until their rage has completely been sucked out of them, through say, jail or therapy.
Controlled emotions is what can allow for the best success. Emotions cloud judgement way too easily.

"I felt bad@$$ when I was winning that fight... Then dude pulled a knife out... Then I was terrified."
Reactional/Reflexive emotions are the most annoying things ever- why I had to get rid of those first. WAAAAAAY too dangerous to just leave around. You could have easily gotten seriously wounded if didn't collect yourself fast enough.
And in the end you still got cut. If you had maintained that confidence and released that worry of "oh crap, I could die" you could have probably left that fight unharmed; you could have even avoided that fight in the first place. Or is that just me?

No. While society definitely has a part in deciding what "normal" emotional reactions are, those societal standards themselves are based on what humans have actually gone through and displayed. the the the the, the entire reason that society has those standards is because that's what has been observed for centuries and is universally recognized as normal.That all seems natural because that's the norm defined by society.

It's different responses for everyone because emotions are complex and highly variable. It's just like tastes and opinions and beliefs and all that other stuff.

Like your death example. It's completely natural for someone to cry over the death of someone. They've formed emotional attachments to them, they've lived life with them, etc. Whatever their relation is.
It isn't a "waste of time" to mourn over death. It's natural and it's encouraged, because it's part of the cycle of grief. You might not cry when a loved one dies. That's fine. That's you. That's not everyone else. There's nothing wrong with either side.
And death is not meaningless to everyone either. I'm guessing you believe in an afterlife. Fine. That's a good enough reason to not care as much about death. But plenty of people don't. Plenty of people who do believe in the afterlife still cry. It's fine.

You can use it just fine. Letting out an angry yell or punching something has been shown to relieve stress or irritation and fairly quickly at that. It can provide motivation and strength, yes. Sure, it can be used for horrible things, but pretty much anything can.

And the reason I was able to collect myself fast enough in the first place is because of those emotions. It alerted me. Made me aware of what was going on. Gave me an instinctive reaction. And it worked.

Science is a relatively changing thing and never gives one a definitive answer; the definition of personality can change 20 years from now for all we know.
