Should we move from phpBB to IP.Board - Need opinions
Re: Should we move from phpBB to IP.Board - Need opinions
The main thing:
Security
In reality, it's upgrading that and keeping everything else. The main change to the end-user would be as if we had a whole new set of cool themes for the site with more to do.

Not sure whats wrong with what we have now, but this is an understandable point. Security is important and should be priority (but again, idk whats wrong with what we have now)K73SK wrote:The main thing:

I don't know why, but even that simple a change bothers me >___>In reality, it's upgrading that and keeping everything else. The main change to the end-user would be as if we had a whole new set of cool themes for the site with more to do.

Re: Should we move from phpBB to IP.Board - Need opinions
To be fair, I do have a couple of concerns with the move, although I'm overall pretty positive about the move on account of added functionality and more mods (I'd like to say more security, but as a user and not an administrator, it's more of a background concern than something that's particularly salient to me)
First, the demo board is pretty ugly. Just saying. I just want to make sure that there are an array of different skins (possibly some that can be custom developed - is that possible)?
Secondly, since my internet is roughly as consistent as trying to attack a Mushura after it starts blocking your hits (read: not very), the IP Board demo was loading a lot slower than this site is. I don't know if it will be faster following the move to this domain, but it's something I want to be kept in mind.
I'm kind of excited to see what sorts of additional add-ons we can customize into the forums following the move, so I'm still looking forward to it. Just want to make sure that those couple of issues can be at least touched on before we move forward for certainty.

Do not question yourself with the why or the how. I simply am, and that is all you need to know.

I don't know much about all this which is why I am reluctant in saying this but can't ads help? This place and community is already awesome, and a bigger and better place , I think, would be worth the annoying ads. But once again I don't know really anything about web site stuff.

Ads can help only in the way of generating revenue, although I know from experience the income is not guaranteed or reliable unless you have massive traffic. There is a balance between the intrinsic value of not having ads and having a possible income.
K has said he is for not having ads, which I agree with. This is one reason I donate to the site.

I want to point out that due to recent events beyond my control (computer and car problems), at this time, it looks unlikely that I will be able to donate, on account of my financial resources being drained taking care of those.
I apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause.

We've discussed temporarily having them on the site for experimental purposes. They're on the very bottom of each page so they're in no way ruining the sites usefulness at all like many other sites. It's a trial to see how well it goes on the site. I still keep to my original word on keeping no annoying ads, top ads, side ads, pop ups, etc. Those are obnoxious as the the the the and scare me away from sites before keeping me at them.IronJustice wrote:Ads can help only in the way of generating revenue, although I know from experience the income is not guaranteed or reliable unless you have massive traffic. I don't know about you, but for me, ads with sound are the absolute worst and should die in Hellfire. If our finances ever get that bad, please let me know and I'll find a way to get something done.K73SK wrote:We've discussed temporarily having them on the site for experimental purposes. Haha, glad to have your support Nightshade. And yes, they should die in a hellfire. I don't know about you, but when I hear an ad where someone starts talking it makes me jump for a second and look around 0_o

Ads don't bother me. Unless they speak or pop up, but even then, audible ads have mute buttons, and pop up ads can be fixed with CTRL+X/Alt+F4 (since I really don't like using my mouse alot) or Pop up blocker.
Just don't let is be one of those "Congratulations! You won!" ads that literally pop outta nowhere (loudly) after spending 5 minutes without leaving a page; only annoying if an ad does everything at once.
