Remakes - Creating the game again from the ground up, supposedly same game play, pretty much same script, usually updated graphics. Key examples: Resident Evil games.
Remasters - Usually just updated resolutions. Not much difference. Possibly bundled with similar games from the same era. Key examples: ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.
Ports - Essentially the same game on a different platform or consoles, with release dates being the significant difference. Often added content included. Key examples: Skies of Arcadia Legends.
Thoughts? Discussion.
Are some games meant to be played on their original platform?
Was buying a Gamecube for RE4 only to have it release on PS2 a few months later aggravating?
How about buying the used copy of ICO, only to see it released as a remaster?
Remakes, remasters, and ports

Well...yes.van wrote:Are some games meant to be played on their original platform?
But I honestly don't see this as an issue, mostly because the arguments against a remake or whatever come from hardcore fans of the original who don't think the original should be "desecrated" and left alone from the "wicked, evil corporations who just want money."
I think tons of games (particularly from when games first started hitting 3D) SHOULD be remade nowadays. Gameplay would work SOOOOOO much better in this gen/next gen. If anything is weak about the "classic" games from those systems, it's how dated the gameplay has gotten.
