Damien had managed to avoid the thugs on his tail, but he was always in sight of them. His bike weaved in and out of the streets and alleys as best and as fast as it could, but it could never seem to evade the pursuers.
The chase had continued for several minutes, but in his panic, Damien had completely forgotten about time. He silently cursed to himself, angry at getting caught up in a mess like this.
He and his brother had not been close for years. In fact, Damien would swear on a Playboy magazine that his brother would have easily put a gun to his head if he could do it with no legal issues.
The car mechanic quickly took an exit on the freeway, not even knowing where he was going. He glanced over his shoulder every few seconds, cursing as each look revealed the thugs still on his tail.
Damien was, in all honesty, not a very good decision maker. He could admit that to himself. He had not made good choices in his youth and now lived a rough life. He had not made good choices when it came to his family, and now one of them was chasing him for drug money. He had not made a good decision to head to that particular diner after skipping work. He had not made a good decision to flee towards what looked like empty land, with no witnesses nearby.
Damien cursed more and more as he realized he had driven into a long, seemingly empty road surrounded by dead grass. Now he had just made it easier to be caught.
All it took was one bump against his back tire to send him spinning and crashing off the side of the road.

Sarah's Neighborhood
4:00 PM
In a heartbeat, Sarah made her decision. She took a deep breath, trying to calm herself even as the barks continued to echo in her head. She made her way to her front door, standing strong and resolute before the strange boy, even if she certainly did not feel that way inside.
"Um...hi," she began. She closed her eyes for an instant, disappointed at how nervous she sounded. "Can I help you?"
What happened next was completely unexpected. The boy suddenly jumped to his feet, wrapping his arms around Sarah in a hug. She was just about ready to scream when his positive, upbeat, happy tone somehow managed to calm her down.
"Sarah?!? Sarah is that you?!? You're Sarah, right? Hi, Sarah! Thank you, thank you, thank you for picking me! of all the Guardians! Thank you!"
Sarah's mouth opened and closed several times in confusion; she was unable to form a sentence at that point. She finally managed to pry off the boy's arms so she could regain her composure. "Who...who are you? Why are you-? What are you doing on my-? Why did you-? Um..."
Upon stepping back, Sarah could get a good look at him, and the sight of him caught her attention. At first, he looked like a normal teenage boy, but his eyes...they had a swirling, glowing, light blue...something in them. It was weird but also beautiful...but mostly weird.
"Oh, right, right, right!" the odd boy said, swinging his backpack in front of him, unzipping it. "I forgot you humans don't really know about the GBs."
"G...Bs?"
The boy pulled out what looked to Sarah like a dog collar and a leash. Both were black with a swirling blue pattern that ran along their lengths. On the collar was a silver dog-tag, but she could not read it.
Sarah backed away again, biting her lip in fear and confusion. "I don't...I'm sorry I don't know what you're talking about...Are you lost, or something? There's a pizza place down the-"
Sarah's jaw dropped as the boy strapped the collar around his neck, rapidly dissolving into a black shadow upon the ground. As quickly as it had happened, the shadow morphed back into a solid being, but this time, it was a dog instead of the boy. A corgi.
Though she was ridiculously confused and scared, the mystical eyes of the dog and how adorable it was in general made her want to pet it. She almost did, until it spoke. "I'm Aoka! Your Guardian from the Beyond! You have good taste in dogs!"
============ GEORGE LOUIS ============
February 2, 2013
New York
Chloe S. Young Park
9:00 PM
It had been quite the eventful past few years for George. He had grown up and moved out of his adopted father's home, and it was certainly one of the happiest moments of his life.
Oh, and he had learned that the Earth was a living being that spoke to him. That was fairly big too.
George happily stepped down from the bus, iPod hooked up to help pass the time on the ride. He carried his guitar with him, just like he had done almost every day for the past seven years. The Earth had taken a liking to his music.
"Mary take me to the merry-go-round," George hummed to himself, "with this beautiful sound, sing my song for you..."
You sure listen to girly songs, George.
George shrugged, a slight grin on his face. He located the tree this entire part of his life had seemed to revolve around. You should listen to 'em sometime. They're good.
Maybe later.
George plopped down beside the tree, resting his guitar case on his lap. He allowed the song to finish playing before turning off his iPod and removing his earphones. He exhaled, taking in the sights of the park late at night. It was nearly empty, and he hadn't come down here at this hour before. So why'd you tell me to come down here so late?
You've grown into such a strong young man, George.
Mhmmmm...
I hate it when you do that.
I know. George leaned back against the tree, hands tucked behind his head to make the position more comfortable for him. He glanced around the park again, but saw nothing. You want me to play something?
No...well, yes, actually...It's...a little more serious than that.
By now, George's curiosity was piqued. What do you mean?
George, there's...there's a...very dangerous person in New York.
Tell me about it.
No. He's not...like the other humans. He's extremely dangerous. He's...hurting me.
George frowned, looking down at his guitar case. How could a human hurt the Earth so much that she would worry about it? Certainly she was used to the amount of pollution and deforestation and all the other things humans did. What made him so different? What do you mean hurting?
George, play a song, please. A new one. But...
What?
It's a serious choice for you...I need your help, George. Please...make sure the song you play is the right song.
What on Earth - er... - what did that even mean?
--------- GEORGE DECISION ---------
The Earth is worried - some dangerous human is harming her in some way. She's asked George to play a song, but some mysterious importance is tied to it. What should he play?
