The adults are also cliched dude.
EVERYTHING is usually cliched.

Look at you, and look at the energy children have, don't you ever wonder why they have so much energy?

As far is see, age isn't relevant to the actual gameplay.
it really do be like that tho

age does not matter to gameplay directly, this is true

but this is an rpg, and one of the most important aspect is the story/characters, is it not?

it is well known that jrpgs (which legaia is) typically feature teenage protagonists that are basically the same:

Name - Sword McHero
Age - 17
Weapon - Sword
Element - Fire
He is naive of the world and has a carefree personality. He jokes around and is oblivious to the girl
that slowly falls in love with him over the course of the game. But he has a strong sense of justice.

in this day and age, games should be trying to evolve and move past typical cliches. this is one of the biggest
complaints used against rpgs - they're too static and cliche. they never change anything up. it's the same game
in a different skin.

one of the biggest ways to do this evolving is to spice up the main character. this is why making the MC an
adult would work. in this type of game, it's hardly ever done - i can think of yuri lowell (tales of vesperia), nier (nier),
and lenneth valkyrie (valkyrie profile), cecil harvey (final fantasy iv) as GOOD protagonists that are not typical teenagers
(tho yuri lowell's design is pushing it)

if an all-new original legaia sequel were to be made, it should not be "typical rpg with the legaia battle system." as a big
fan, you should want the game to reach it's full potential. i just don't think that's possible with your average teen hero.
and making a teenage character with an "adult" personality wouldn't make much sense. why? well, you might as well make
the character an adult.

Sometimes, the innocence of a child is an important quality, not something you find in a 20-30 year old. Sometimes kids see what an adult fails to see.

And usually the teen is followed by an old master, who then becomes their role model; Maturity and power wise.
it really do be like that tho

yes, but that innocence tends to lead to the child just being stupid or a tool in which the audience can project themselves into a world they're not familiar with

yes but there are qualities of adults you don't see in kids. different ways of thinking, maturity, priorities, etc

this is not exclusive to teenage protagonists and this doesn't help the case of the teenage protag. this is just another cliche
who then becomes their role model; Maturity and power wise.

which can already be easily accomplished by having an adult character, thus leading to even more expansion. think of the maturity growth like this:

Low ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Medium ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ High

----- teen at beginning ------------------ teen at end

------------------------------------ adult at beginning ----------------- adult at end
