It's when Venus' shadow crosses in front of the Sun. It's a very rare event... Happens in events of 105 and 121 years (or something around those years). The next one happens in 2117.

There's a ton of other things that could affect the look of a planet and whatnot
Distance, size of the planet, light, dark matter, etc.
it really do be like that tho
