Well I think the game should be for more of the classic characters that have been around for atleast a year if not much longer. New characters from upcoming games and stuff could maybe be unlockable or something

With only 24 characters and so far not many of them representing the PS1 era, I agree. However, it's still a business and a game on PS3. Many of the younger gamers will not remember older, PS1 characters as much, and because of licensing issues from games way back when, it may be a bit more difficult to include them

They just announced that there will be alternate costumes, some pre-order bonuses, and some unlockable. These are the ones for the main cast so far:
