PART ONE OF TWO!

Uthma had managed to get patched up at the hopsital in no time, and was back on the
streets soon after. He was a bit upset about having yelled at Wendy, but his decision
still stood in his eyes. Ulkos was useless now, unless he could get him repaired, and
Redhollow got away once again.
The young mercenary got a table at the nearby bar, ordering a glass of water. Many of
the customers' eyes locked on him at different times, having seen the battle in the
streets earlier that day. He did his best to ignore them.
What he could not ignore was the nagging feeling that he could fix this. K73SK, the
renowned Seru programmer, could definitely do what Wendy had failed to, and much more
efficiently. Plus, Redhollow might be there as well.
Though the thought that he would lose once again kept his doubt breathing, something
inside of him told him that he could win this fight. He could swoop in, ask for K73SK's
help, then take down Redhollow. Their swordplay was practically matched now, and he
doubted there was much more that could get in the way.
It's settled then, he decided, paying the waitress and getting up from the table.
To the Usha Research Center...

"B-Biggs, who is that?!" gasped a young man carrying a Gola Gola prototype, referring
to Mr. Virus's towering figure entering the doorway.
"I-I don't know. Excuse me, sir!"
Mr. Virus turned his attention to Biggs, who was fussing over his labcoat buttons.
"What do you want?"
"Um, weapons aren't allowed in this Building...We work on dangerous prototypes that
could be damaged. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave."
Mr. Virus chuckled, causing sweat to drop from the temple of Biggs. "I don't think I
wanna leave. Redhollow told me to have some fun while he gets work done, you see?"
"He said to-!" the first programmer said.
In equal parts anger and glee, Mr. Virus struck the man in the chest with the flat of
his shovel, causing him to drop the Gola Gola and smash into a machine behind him.
"Wedge!" yelled Biggs, right before he took a kick to the chest.
"I'm not big on science and Seru and all that," said Mr. Virus, swinging at other
programmers trying to escape the dangerous brute. "This is the only thing that can keep
me interested!"
Amidst the panic in the lab, an assistant stepped on the Gola Gola prototype, causing
it to shoot fireballs in all directions, striking computer monitors, programmers, and
delicate machines.
Within seconds the lab was on fire, and that flame spread to the nearby laboratories
as well. Alarms in the forms of sirens and screams erupted in the Usha Research Center.
Smoke suffocated those unfortunate enough to find no way to escape. Even Mr. Virus was
a little worried.
But that was nothing more killing couldn't fix.

Miles away, at a Seru Train station between Buma and Sol, Wendy and Raive settled into
their train seat, ready to complete their trip to Sol and get Wendy's mercenary career
started.
"So...what have you been doing all these years, Raive?" asked Wendy, trying to start
a conversation to pass the time.
"Well," said Raive. "For starters, I helped small villages outside of Rim Elm. You know,
helped plant crops, healed the sick, fought off monsters. That sort of thing.
"I stuck around there for about a year and a half. Made a couple friends along the way.
In fact, we formed a group that planned on traveling Legaia and helping those who
needed it. We were all fairly young at the time, and a bit too optimistic, to tell the
truth."
Wendy shrugged. "It's a selfless quest. You'd be doing a lot of people good."
Raive smiled, nodding. "Yeah, but with just the four of us? Impossible, really. In
time, we realized that, and two of the group went to Biron University in order to
become teachers. I went to Drake Castle to take a break and soak in the sights. You
should really go sometime. They've got these statues of Vahn, Noa, and Gala...have you
heard of them?"
"I think so," replied Wendy. "In school, we read about them. They stopped the Mist,
right?"
"Yup. The statues are very well-made, and people from all over Legaia go there to
pay respect to them. It's a beautiful sight.
"And afterwards, I began making my way back to Buma. I stopped by the University to
say hello to my old friends, met some higher-ups at Jeremi, and spent a few nights
at Sol, speaking to the kids at the daycare. Then I got back home, and....here I am."
"That's....that's quite a story for just a few years," said Wendy. "Maybe when I
become a merc I can have one as interesting as yours."
"Well, you'll be doing a lot of hunting. I bet you'll have better stories."
"I hope so."
As their conversation ended, the large TV overlooking the Seru Train turned to an
emergency news report, detailing the crisis at the Usha Research Center, and the
possibility of an attack by the Zalan Corp.
"Wendy," said Raive, standing up. "Sol can wait. We should check that attack out."
"But what if-?"
"Wendy, I'm not the kind of guy to sit back and let something like this happens.
Don't worry, we can be there in twenty minutes, tops." He tossed Wendy her bags,
already at the train door. "Besides, it might be good combat training."
Wendy nodded, and followed her brother.
* * *
"The news stations are already reporting it?" Sise-Neg asked into his phone. "It hasn't
even been twenty minutes, has it?"
"Not yet," said a man on the other side of the call.
"It was probably Virus, if anything. The ninja can keep himself under control; at least
when it comes to big panics like this one."
"What are your orders, Your Majesty?"
Sise-Neg paced around the room, contemplating his options.
He finally decided. "Send out the new prototype flying Seru, and drop an explosive
onto the Research Center AFTER Redhollow, Damien, and Virus get out."
"Can you describe them, sir?"
"The ninja wears black. Fairly young. Damien's much older, and a bit bigger build. And
trust me, you'll know Virus when you see him..."
"We'll prepare the Seru sir. Expect the detonation soon."
"Oh I will..."
