THE KARISTO EXPLOSION
Part 1 of 4

The three sprinted as quickly as they could through the area, and luckily for them, there wasn't much getting in there way (there was an occasional wild animal that served as no obstacle the second Mr. Virus smacked it away with his shovel), so the trail was smooth running.

"Couldn't you have warned us of a d*mn bomb pit?!?" Redhollow yelled at Damien. "BEFORE we got there?!?"

"It escaped my memory!" replied Damien, huffing and puffing.

"It's cuz you're old," said Mr. Virus. He and Redhollow bumped knuckles.

"You should be thanking me, you brat!" spat the Cyber Seru Programmer. "I made your Kemaro five times better in a few minutes!"

The ninja looked down at his Kemaro companion, who was actually ahead of the ninja (who was known to be quick on his feet). The happy expression on its face lead the way of pounding feet that were blurred in their speed.

"I didn't give you permission to touch my Kemaro."

The three continued in silence, hearts racing and chests heaving as they tried desperately to escape the explosion area. Within moments they arrived at Mr. Virus's van, and quickly jumped in, the owner flooring the gas pedal.

"So where to Damien?" asked the driver.

"Sol is the closest safe spot, I'd say."

"Wonder if Uthma'll be caught in that explosion," pondered the ninja. He leaned back against his seat, his scythe in his lap. "Nah, he'll live. The only thing that's gonna kill him is my sword."

"Well we ourselves have to make it out alive," retorted Damien, constantly looking behind them. "I'd say we've got about one more minute before the bombs go off."

"What is it with explosions, lately?" asked Redhollow, rolling his eyes. "First the research center, now the middle of the woods."

"Perhaps it's a sign," answered the Seru programmer.

"Of what?"

"That your ego has exploded to far too large proportions," the old man chuckled. He turned to Mr. Virus and extended his fist for a bump that he didn't receive.

"If you didn't say it like an old fart with a stick up his a**, you'd get your bump."

"Alright, there's Sol!" said the ninja in the backseat. "How much longer until that explosion?"

"A good twenty seconds."

The Cyber Seru Train was nearly to Sol from it's quick stop in Octam. The entire group was incredibly tired from the long trip, and were happy to find rest awaiting them in Sol once this final stretch was over.

"Man, I'm exhausted," yawned Uthma, rubbing his eyes. "So many train rides lately...Seru Train lag..."

"You're young, dammit," replied K73SK, who was sitting next to the young mercenary. He cracked his neck and fixed his sitting position. "You shouldn't feel tired yet. Least ya got energy!"

"Hey quit squirming around, old man!" said Wendy from the seat directly behind Uthma and K73SK. She elbowed the chair to get her point across. "I'm tryna sleep here!"

Elena sat across from Wendy; each of the girls had their own seat. She giggled, then returned to playing with Rika. Wendy dropped her entire body onto the seat, trying to get the shut eye she desperately needed.

Back on the opposite side of Uthma and K73SK was Raive going through the old book they had gotten from Sir Z. He had been studying it intently since they had retrieved it - he didn't want to make any fatal mistakes with this.

Uthma leaned his head on his hand and stared out the window, then turned back to Raive. "C'mon, can't you tell me anything about that book?"

Raive didn't answer. He didn't even move from his reading position.

"This is serious stuff, kid," growled K, leaning against the chair to take a nap. "Leave him alone."

Uthma rolled his eyes before deciding to bother Wendy. "Hey Wendy, can you hand me the case?"

Wendy groaned then tossed it over the chair. Uthma had to utilize his battle reflexes in order to catch it.

He still couldn't open it, but his imagination ran wild with the thoughts of what it could do, what it looked like, or even what it was.

"I bet that thing's magnificent," said K, commenting on the case. "Damien's not a great guy, but he's a brilliant programmer. And with that Gimard bomb, I'm sure it's something big."

"Whoa guys what is that?" asked Elena, her face smushed up against the window. "Is that a-?"

The rest of the group jumped to their feet to see. It was a massive explosion of blue flames that seemed to come from somewhere in the woods to the north. It was quickly expanding outward, swallowing everything it could for an impossibly large radius.

"Ugh what's with all the explosions?!?" yelled Uthma, running towards the back of the train, motioning for the rest to do the same.

The fires were exploding outward, and the front cars of the train were headed right into its path...

Part 2 of 4

"Well here come the flames," remarked Damien, seeing them through the mirror outside the van. He started to nervously tap on the door, glancing at Sol ahead and to the driver to his left. "Would it hurt to speed this thing up?"

"No," replied Mr. Virus. He smiled. "Which is why I'm not gonna do it."

"What are you-?" started Redhollow.

Suddenly the flames were seconds behind the van, which had slowed down quite a bit at the bidding of the driver. Both the ninja and the Seru programmer turned to Mr. Virus with wide eyes, stuttering, "Wh-what are you doing?!? The explosion-!"

The van was thrown forward with the energy from the explosion, hurling them into the air, straight at one of the upper floors of the Sol Tower. All three screamed, but only Virus's roars were in pleasure. They tumbled around a bit in the van, but other than that, had no real injuries.

The van crashed into the glass of the tower, killing some innocent bystanders and lodging the van into the wall inside the floor they had entered. The van was not going to move anymore.

Mr. Virus exited the vehicle first, his laughs echoing all around the tower. "Holy sh*t that was awesome!"

Redhollow jumped out, dusting his clothes off. He was shaken inside, having though he would sustain more than a few burn injuries, being in the backseat. He was far too stubborn to show it, however. Instead, he gathered his weapons and moved away from the van, noticing the back was burnt black - and in some places the body of the van had melted.

Damien was the last to leave the van, and the most terrified. His eyes were still wide, and his hands were shaking. In a few seconds, he regained his composure, but said nothing - not even an angry remark at Virus's stupidity for subjecting the three to a near death.

The three looked out into the distance.

The explosion had finished it's eruption, but the flames tore at d*mn near everything - grass, trees, buildings, and even people. It was a gruesome sight, but in a sense beautiful as well. Coupled with the orange sky of sunset, it was strangely attractive.

The three began to head to the bottom of the tower in order to rest up when they passed by a TV that caught their attention. In it was footage of the explosion striking the Cyber Seru Train, and Redhollow couldn't help but smile.

"I bet you 2,000 gold coins that Uthma's in that train."

"UTHMA!" Wendy yelled from behind the mercenary. She stumbled as the entire group ran to escape the flames eating away at the front of the train, constantly moving towards the back.

The swordsman turned around as he felt the current car they were in tilting downwards - the front of it had become dislodged from the wires that typically carried the train. Wendy slid downwards towards the incoming flames, and she couldn't stop herself.

"Wendy, hold on!" he yelled. He tossed the mysterious case to K73SK in front of him and ran towards Wendy, making sure not to go too fast as to lose balance and end up in the flames.

He dived down and grabbed her hand in the nick of time, as she was soon dangling over the edge of the now open car door. Her body swayed in the air over the ocean, and her stomach was constantly getting pressed into the edge of the car, as the train was still storming towards the train station below.

Thankfully, the fire had only burned the cars ahead of the one they were currently on, so it was no longer a threat as those burned dropped into the ocean below.

Uthma grabbed her hand with both of his own, and lifted her back into the car. They dived behind seats in the car so that they didn't fall out of the tilted remnants of the train.

"How do we stop this thing?!?" yelled Uthma to the rest of the group.

No one had a solution.

"WHATDOWEDOWHATDOWEDOWHATDOWEDO?!?!?" Elena yelled, running back and forth at the top of the car. They were speeding down towards the train station below, but had no way to make the landing safe - or survivable.

"Raive! K! Think of something!" yelled Uthma.

"Why me?!?" both Raive and K73SK roared back in confusion. They exchanged quick glances.

"Don't you have anything to save us?!?" asked Wendy. "Like some Cyber Seru...thingy?!?"

"I'm a programmer not a storage closet!"

"Was that supposed to be funny?" Elena asked, calmly. She suddenly remembered the dire situation they were in and returned to panicking.

"Wait!" said Uthma. He looked down at the incoming station below. "I have an idea!"

"Well what-?" started Wendy. Uthma suddenly grabbed her and ran to do the same to Elena. "Raive! K! Follow me!"

"What are you-?" the Seru programmer began.

Suddenly Uthma ran towards the front of the train, the girls on his shoulders screaming.

Raive and K73SK quickly caught on to what Uthma was planning. They sprinted off after the young mercenary, and threw Uthma and the girls up towards the wire that the Cyber Seru Train utilized to move. At the same time, K removed Ulkos from Uthma's back and launched it to the wire.

Wendy and Elena each grabbed a finger so that Uthma could release them and grab a finger too. Raive and K73SK jumped and grabbed the wire as well, using their weapons to keep their hands from getting torn up on the drop.

Holy sh*t it worked... Uthma thought as they all sped down to the station.

"Hey watch it!" yelled a pedestrian whom Mr. Virus bumped into while he, Redhollow, and Damien were rushing downstairs to get to the station. Seconds later, his head was twisted to the side from a shovel strike.

The three emerged from Sol Tower and located some Gimard scooters they could use in order to get to the station faster. As they did so, they soon noticed another was following them on a Gimard scooter of his own.

Redhollow looked over his shoulder to see a red-haired man with a sword on his back following them, his eyes locked in a glare. The ninja looked to Virus and Damien, telling them to go on ahead of him.

The ninja suddenly whipped the scooter around and leaped from it, his scythe aimed at the stranger's head. The target, however, would not be caught so easily. His sword flashed up and hooked around the blade of Redhollow's scythe. The stranger's left arm, which was covered in some odd armor, flashed orange and a fireball shot from it. The ninja barely had time to throw himself onto the grass below in order to avoid it.

As he fell, Redhollow hooked the scythe around the scooter, tripping up his opponent. Both landed a few feet away from each other, the scooter skidding off to the side.

They stood up at the same time, eyeing each other for an opening.

"Who are you?" demanded Redhollow, his scythe on his shoulder. "And why are you following us?"

The stranger stabbed his sword into the ground to lean on it. "Your Seru...I want them."

"Tch." The scythe lowered to the ground as if it could pounce like a wild cat. "Really? Idiot."

"Redhollow!" yelled Mr. Virus from the distance. He and Damien had stopped and were pointing up to the wires of the Cyber Seru Train...

Redhollow and the stranger both looked up to see Uthma, Wendy, and Elena sliding down the wire on a Zenoir, and Raive and K73SK following close behind.

The ninja looked to the strange swordsman. "How about you take that Zenoir?"

The swordsman nodded. "Fine. I prefer them to Kemaro anyway."

"One...two...three!" yelled Uthma, signalling for Ulkos to release it's grip on the Cyber Seru Train wire. The Zenoir did as it was told, and the three screamed on their way down. They landed in a roll that, while it hurt them (particularly in the backs and shoulders), still let them live. Raive had a much more graceful landing. K73SK ended up in some bushes.

Soon afterwards, the remnants of the Seru Train crashed into the station, causing panic. Uthma stood up, putting Ulkos back in it's place on the mercenary's back. He helped the girls up to their feet.

"So..." the leader stated. "How about we take a break at Sol?"

K73SK shook his head, growling. "Not quite. Behind you."

Uthma groaned as he saw Redhollow standing in the distance, followed by Mr. Virus, Damien, and a swordsman.

Uthma narrowed his eyes at his rival, dusting his shoulders off and rolling them in order to warm up for the inevitable showdown that was about to take place. His hand moved to his sword handle, but he didn't draw it just yet. If there was any chance to postpone this fight, he was going to try to get a hold of it.

"Just back away, Redhollow," he called. The ninja responded by stopping his walk just a few feet away. "Unless you wanna get your a** kicked."

The ninja chuckled and leaned on his scythe. "I don't remember that happening before. What the the the the the makes you think it'd be any different this time?"

"Ulkos has been upgraded," Uthma returned, smiling. "Not that I need him."

"Ulkos..." said the strange swordsman behind Redhollow. "You named your Zenoir?"

"Who's that?" Wendy whispered to Uthma, who shrugged.

"No, you'll definitely need it," said Redhollow. His Kemaro jumped out and excitedly hopped up and down, it's tongue flapping left and right. "To handle this guy while you and me duel for real."

"Interesting," said K73SK, taking his eyes away from Damien to inspect the Cyber Seru. "Seems Damien upped the speed on that thing. Who knows what else?"

"Not much, in all honesty," replied the rival Seru programmer. "But it's much more effective than whatever it is you've done to that Zenoir. I guarantee it."

"Enough talk!" yelled the swordsman, who drew his weapon. "Just break that Zenoir so I can take it's parts."

"W-what?" asked Wendy. "Why would you-?"

"Shut up, girl! Hm...is that a Nighto on your back?"

"You're not getting near-"

"I guess I'll go for the Nighto first while you," the swordsman said to Redhollow. "wear down that Zenoir for me."

The ninja replied with an eye roll and a "whatever."

"Just let us through!" Uthma yelled.

In response, Redhollow sprinted at his foe, the scythe coming down in a heavy one-handed arc. Uthma barely had time to draw his weapon and block the attack, holding the scythe at bay from piercing the top of his skull. The rivals' eyes locked in an angry battle glare.

The Kemaro, in tune with it's master's attack, ran to the Zenoir, leaping into the air to headbutt it. The Zenoir crawled to the side to avoid the attack, then started shooting mini fireballs at it's foe.

The swordsman launched his attack at Wendy, but it was intervened by Raive's spear. The two exchanged matching blows, with Wendy spinning in to launch a stab with her knives whenever Raive had to block or dodge.

K73SK went straight for Damien, trying to get some answers out of his rival while the latter drew his naginata. Their blades clashed with one another high and low.

Elena's eyes widened as she was left face-to-face with a charging Mr. Virus, wielding his massive shovel. She barely had time to roll out of the way to avoid a blow that would have certainly beheaded her had it landed.

Grr...he fights differently with a scythe than his usual sword, Uthma analyzed as he ducked under said weapon before slashing upwards, only to miss. Gotta adjust my fighting style!

Redhollow's scythe twirled in and out, aiming for Uthma's vitals. The mercenary was not used to such an attack, and had to account for the curve of the blade in order to make successful blocks and dodges. When he finally had an opening, he hit the floor and swung at the shins of his foe, but missed.

"GET OUT OF THE WAY!" yelled the swordsman as he jumped up and swung the blade down, only to have it bounce back against Raive's spear. "THIS IS BETWEEN ME AND THE GIRL!"

"That's my sister you're talking about!" replied Raive, landing a kick to the stomach of the swordsman. He tried to follow his a stab, but this attack was dodged and met with another slash. "Wendy! Go help Elena!"

"On it!"

The red-haired girl turned around and dashed to assist her friend who was running backwards as fast as she could, throwing lightning balls that were smacked aside with the shovel. Mr. Virus swung once more as he got closer, and Elena barely evaded the attack. Wendy sprinted by, landing a cut on the big man's thigh before running to a safe distance beside Elena.

"Guess what we found at the Research Center wreck?" asked K73SK, his sword pounding on the pole of Damien's naginata.

Damien growled and twirled the naginata over his back, switching the leading hand. He lunged forward, but it was deflected.

"What's in that suitcase, Damien? Has to be important if you put a passcode lock on it!"

"None of your business!"

"Tch."

Uthma glanced to his right to see Redhollow's Kemaro chomp down on one of Ulkos's fingers, and the attack only made Uthma angrier. He switched from the defensive to the offensive, stepping forward with each swing, careful not to become too consumed by rage as to slip up and get himself killed. His sword swings became more powerful, and even the ninja was surprised at the sudden strength and ferocity boost. He himself had to increase the power of his blocks or become disarmed in combat.

Damien suddenly smiled as he noticed the Kemaro was winning the battle with the Zenoir. He tripped up K73SK for a moment, not enough to go for a killing blow, but enough for him to push a button on his sleeve.

The Kemaro instantly stopped its attack on Ulkos and ran off towards the bushes to the side of the fighting. Within seconds it located the suitcase that Damien locked, gripping it in its mouth.

"Uthma! Don't let them take the suitcase!" roared K73SK. He slashed outward, chipping off a few inches of the pole end of Damien's naginata.

Uthma rolled to the side in a desperate escape attempt, trying to chase after the Kemaro and ordering Ulkos to do the same.

"Oh no you don't!" called Redhollow. He sprinted after his foe, the scythe chopping down at a pace that kept Uthma looking back in order to survive.

Ulkos scurried after the Kemaro, but it was not built for speed, and it failed to catch up. Wendy pushed Elena out of the way of a downward shovel slam and told her to chase after the Kemaro. She herself got in another cut on Mr. Virus before the monstrous man stopped attacking her altogether.

Raive and the swordsman had their weapons locked and were pushing back and forth, each trying to gain enough leverage to push the other down to their defeat. However, when the suitcase entered the game, Raive had no choice but to stop. He let go of his spear altogether and rolled to the side. He still had the knives in his boots, but he was no longer set on fighting - just getting the case.

The Kemaro continued to run towards Damien with the case in its mouth. Raive was the first to reach it, and his hand latched onto the handle of the case - the part that wasn't in the Kemaro's massive jaw. He and the Cyber Seru tugged at it before Mr. Virus came storming in, raising his shovel for a swing.

Elena tackled Raive and the two rolled away to safety while the shovel slammed the suitcase and the Kemaro towards Damien, high above everyone else's reach.

Everyone reacted in a mad frenzy.

Wendy threw one of her daggers at the case, landing it perfectly. The suitcase flew out of the Kemaro's mouth, and into K73SK's open left hand. However, Redhollow quickly stormed in and took it from the Seru programmer before he could get a good grip on it. He sprinted towards Damien, but a fireball to the hand from Ulkos forced him to release his grip on it. Damien ran for the bouncing case, but a shoulder slam from Uthma kept him from doing so.

The case was picked up by Elena who began to run away from the madness with it tight to her chest. The swordsman sliced at her, intending to cut her hands right off, but a kick to the back of the legs by Raive interrupted the attack. She ran until Mr. Virus readied another shovel swing to the head. Luckily for her, Wendy and K73SK connected their hands and clothes-lined the big man to buy her some time.
