Legaia Trademark Status
Re: Legaia Trademark Status
I got connections to animators as well as other illustrators. Not sure If I ever mentioned that.

'tis true, and the current rate is 90 something years the last time I read it.Nightshade wrote:Nothing ever goes public domain. Mickey Mouse Protection Act clearly shows that the length of copyright is 20 years plus the number of years since Steamboat Willie was released.

70 years + life of the author for a work produced by an individual. A flat 95 years for a corporation's work.
There are talks to extend both these numbers by 25 years, obviously retroactively applying.
On the other hand, trademarks and patents can and do die all the time.

Do not question yourself with the why or the how. I simply am, and that is all you need to know.
Re: Legaia Trademark Status
Yeah, trademark is gone already. Copyright is a totally different thing, though... and it looks like - unless I purchase the rights from Sony - we won't have a Legaia 3 for decades if not over a century, lol.

Re: Legaia Trademark Status
What do you guys think it would cost to buy the rights from them?
Also by the way, under the parody laws, you could make something that is literally exactly the same as long as it is called something slightly different.

Legend of Legaia, a pinnacle of human achievement, will always have a place in my heart

Re: Legaia Trademark Status
It'd cost thousands.
And sure, but that's lame. Wouldn't be 'technically' a real sequel. But if somebody bought it (the rights) and made their own L3, then that'd be official.

Companies aren't really friendly to fanmade continuations. If anyone tried to do a remake of LoL without purchasing rights they'd certainly get a cease and desist letter from Sony, just like what Square Enix did to the makers of Chrono Resurrection.

Basically the moral of this story.Sise-Neg wrote:Companies aren't really friendly to fanmade continuations. If anyone tried to do a remake of LoL without purchasing rights they'd certainly get a cease and desist letter from Sony, just like what Square Enix did to the makers of Chrono Resurrection.
Why we need the rights.
Lone is on it though, currently trying to win the lottery. Wish him luck.
