Legaia Trademark Status
Re: Legaia Trademark Status
I posted an edit to the main message for everyone to read. Please look at it, as I don't want the world of Legaia fans to be confused with everything.

Re: Legaia Trademark Status
why does everyone hate legaia 2, its just because ppl don't know about legaia 2, if I'm correct, they never made a commercial... i think they did...... it rated a 4/5 last time i checked online i think.... legaia was only purchased by real gamers and legaia 2 was purchased by people who knew of its existence... which weren't many..... ppl that I've let the game to liked it.. ive gotten 6.5-8 ratingsK73SK wrote: The second game was probably the reasoning for this.
it really do be like that tho
Re: Legaia Trademark Status
Well, it's not the rating of the game and how peopled liked/disliked it, red. It's the sales numbers. A game could be the best thing possible yet never make a sequel because they didn't make enough profit. According to vgchartz.com, Legaia 2 only made a little more than a quarter million sales. Say the game took 2 years to make, to be generous. A quarter million sales at an average of say $30. That's $7.5 million. Sounds like a lot, but it really is short when it comes to the fact you have to have a budget in the game market. There's around 43 people who made Legaia 2 according to the same website, so let's say they all make the same amount of money.
$7.5 mill / 2 = $3.75 mill a year.
$3.75 mill / 43 = $87,209 a year per employee
That's $7,267 per employee per month. That's assuming we hit a $0 profit on the game. Let's say each employee gets $50,000 a year on average, which may actually be low. Let's find out the profit now (still in a 2 year range of $7.5 mill):
50,000 * 43 = $2.15 mill
$3.25 - $2.15 = $1.1 mill profit
That's, of course, assuming that they published their own game (which they didn't), didn't have to pay for the licensing fee on the ps2 (which they did), didn't have to spend money advertising (which they did in magazines on full pages), don't have to worry about purchasing supplies and hardware and tools for the employees... So in reality, there is no profit in this game. They got either VERY little or lost money in the process.
Legend of Legaia on the other hand made 0.37 million sales. They may have made just enough money to create the sequel, but unfortunately had to go through a different publisher and a bunch of other good stuff.
See what happen? Two games created, not enough of a "DROOL!!" profit, so they stopped. That's why no one has stopped to try and make a third one.

Re: Legaia Trademark Status
my brained locked up a few times but i get the gist... so whats the deal if the game is popular like KH or FF? and how far do they go for buying ads?
it really do be like that tho
Re: Legaia Trademark Status
Well if it hit as many sales and popularity as those two, I can guarantee they'd at least have made a third one if not a remake of the first game as most of us demand.
By the way, the 0.37 mill copies of LoL was only a U.S. based amount of sales. I don't know the actual global amount due to it not being reported to the website. So LoL must have made probably around a million total...
And paying for advertisement is always going to be one of your biggest expenses... It's really not cheap if you want to advertise good

Re: Legaia Trademark Status
Out of sheer curiosity, how much would it cost to actually purchase the trademark, should you actually get the resources (time, effort, experience, money, etc.) to create a Legaia game?
Do not question yourself with the why or the how. I simply am, and that is all you need to know.
Re: Legaia Trademark Status
Well, I'm not sure. A new trademark goes for $300 or something like that. But the fact that it was previously owned and is only "expired" ... Not sure how much it'd cost to purchase it and take over. Not to mention that being accepted for a trademark can take a very long time sometimes.

Re: Legaia Trademark Status
so... what do we do... we have a small team i suppose...
we got:
A programmer [K73SK]
A genius who can translate other language[SISE-NEG]
A few artists [REDHOLLOWLIVES999 & RKIGHT808]
Another genius [NIGHTSHADE]
A few people who can speak multiple language [REDHOLLOWLIVES999, SISE, & SOMEBODY ELSE WHO DOESNT LONG IN MUCH]
A few musicians [REDHOLLOWLIVES999, IAMFICTION, & MJZ(rapper i think)]
a few more designers, and people with connections and we COULD come up with alittle something to lead us to the actual game (the real challenge)
