I think adding diagonals is a little bit of an overload lol

As far as battle system goes, did we decide on how we'd want it (in the most compromising, hive mind way?) I liked keeping the traditional system but with the speed of FFX (by making the characters perform the action immediately)

you mean so its not like do all your characters actions at once, but rather when its their turn to attack you at then?

yeah
So like when the battle starts, say you get control of Noa (substitute whoever the fast character ends up being). At the same time, Vahn does a pose and says something in Japanese or w/e. This is a signal that Vahn will be the next character to act. So you do U, D, U with Noa. She does that. You then get control of Vahn, and one of the Slime enemies does a little blobby thing or w/e. This is a signal that the Slime will be the next character to act. You do Tornado Flame with Vahn and kill the Slime. etc.
The grunt and signal thing would be to keep FFX's planning ahead strategy while not straight up ripping it off
