Actually X then Square does it too. Both methods work, moving the directional buttons has nothing to do with it. Try it out.

I hate fishing ive only fished once and hated it, having to reel in the line and hope you get a fish before your line gets to shore, then when a fish bites having to watch it's health and tension, ick.

Well, it's a good way to get good accessories early on, then the Water Egg and War God Icon later.

Im just playing the game....Not into fishing....I do like the fighting arena though....

I'm not a big fan of the fishing in this game, but you can get some pretty decent items if you get your score high enough. This guide helps quite a bit, too.

Does anyone know in detail the differences between the 3 rods? Seems like the old rod can't catch extra large fish and is more likely to catch smaller fish not to mention it is harder to reel in fish compared to the better rods. I couldn't say anything about the deluxe rod because I've almost never used it. The Legendary rod I believe is easily the best rod. It catches larger fish on average and is way easier to reel in.(Old rod can't catch Barabas as far as I can tell while Legendary can[unsure about deluxe]).

Anyone else have more info on the different rods? Does anyone use the deluxe alot?

Yes, I came across that information when I was debugging the game before.

From what I remember, the fishing tables determine what fish you CAN catch (random number) when you equip a rod. Just before a fish bites, the game looks up the fishing table based on what Rod you have (old rod 00, deluxe 01, legendary 02). All that information is here, I thought, or maybe on gamefaqs, but if you want me to go look up those tables I suppose I could whenever I go back home.
