Gold or Silver

Question: We all know that the Silver Compass decreases the chances of being ambushed, and that the Golden Compass increases the chances of ambushing. What I wanna know is if the Golden Compass actually also decreases the chances of being ambushed along with increasing the chances of ambushing.
