I still don't know of a good way to convert directly from hexadecimal to octal (or vice versa) without having to first transfer it to binary or decimal.
Do not question yourself with the why or the how. I simply am, and that is all you need to know.

Oh COME ON! It's not that hard. Start off with memorizing the 16 binary numbers for hex:

0000 = 0
0001 = 1
0010 = 2
0011 = 3
0100 = 4
0101 = 5
0110 = 6
0111 = 7
1000 = 8
1001 = 9
1010 = A
1011 = B
1100 = C
1101 = D
1110 = E
1111 = F

Not sure... Since octal is 8-based, maybe just dividing the hex in two and translating the numbers into octal? :D Wild guess

^^ You'd be taking 3 length 'bytes' (if I may stretch the formalism a bit) in hexadecimal and converting them to 4 length 'bytes' (again, stretching the formalism) in octal. But apart from that, you'd still have to do a bit of conversion in each step. But I think it's easier to convert through binary

For example, A65F38 ->

A65 F38

1010 0110 0101 1111 0011 1000

101 001 100 101 111 100 111 000

numbers hurt red :(
if 0001=1
then 27x3859^20001 is equivalent to the mass of ChlorineFlourineOxide condensed with americium
0001 1110 0101 1111 1101

0111 1001 0110 0001 1111 0101 0010

201 1001 221 0110
it really do be like that tho

You're on the right track. I asked my class and got the answer. Split it into sets of three's and turn it into an octal.

decimal (10-base) 301: 0001 0010 1101
group into 3's: 000 100 101 101
Translate to a number: 0455, therefore 301 in octal is 455.
