He's referring to after Xain turned all the lava into ice... The fire seru vanished from the vicinity and suddenly all these ice monsters roled on in.

All bosses are annoying... Despite the fact of there not being enough of them

The problem is that all the bosses can be beat with a combination of copious grinding and dumb luck, so there's not a whole lot of strategy except for Miracle Art spam and occasional heal magic.
And the two times when you can't do that (Muscle Dome and Lapis), they're easily beatable as long as you know the tricks and aren't underleveled (I've done both at level 40 and before Seru-kai, for whatever it's worth).
Only boss that's actually a challenge at reasonable levels is Berserker, but even he can be one-shotted with the Nighto trick.

Which is why jRPG's need to limit what kind of moves actually damage an opponent...

Xain (well... Next to lapis and cort) was the only boss I had to go an relevel up
Well.. In my recent play through I beat rogue at level 23-29 I think.. With a point card and M.A's... And the unlimited munnies cheat... I really only wanted it so I can get the best armor.... And the earth raseru egg...
... I'm gonna be so underleveled when I reach cort
(oh and btw I have not died yet... Unless you count that one time where I let myself die so I didn't have to restart the game.... I just found it easier.. )

LoL was my first real exp with an rpg so yeah, Xain kicked my face in! Although, being young and inexperienced kinda made all the bosses tough. I miss the days of tough bosses >.<
