Anyone ever play a game for the first time in years...

and then realize that the game seems much worse than you remember? I remember that I had really fond memories of the PS1 game Beyond the Beyond from back when it first came out in the mid 90's. Then I tried playing it the year before last and realized that it was a complete train-wreck. The encounter rate was inhumanely high, the game gives you no guidance on where to go or what to do, and most of the time the storyline is just completely abandoned for hours on end in favor of random wandering. I remember I got about 15-20 hours in and gave up on the Desert Ruins, which may be the single most frustrating maze I've ever encountered.

Actually, yes I have had quite a few games this way - lol. As a kid, I loved Catacombs 3D...But now it's kind of annoying, lol. Mario is Missing (PC version game) was fun too, but now it's really out of date with its information and isn't the greatest learning source (although a lot of information is still accurate, there are some things that could be fixed).

I can't really think of any games at the top of my head regarding Playstation 1 or PS2...But I'm sure there are a few. :D

Very few people have heard of it, but there's this fighting game for the playstation called Cardinal Syn. It was kind of like a wannabe Mortal Kombat. I first played it at my aunt's house when I was eight and then found it at a game shop a few weeks ago, actually. Bought it because of the nostalgia but after playing for 20 minutes I decided to return it. Such a bad game I don't know why I liked it. Probably because my dad said video games are for losers and would never let me have any so any video game was cool to me at that age lol.

Educational TV shows and games that you like a child never seem to look quite as good in hindsight.

Also, I've had the opposite of the topic happen to me, where I've hated a game and then liked it on my second try. I tried to play Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter shortly after I played Breath of Fire IV. I figured that though the box art looked different the game would be similar. It wasn't. The gameplay, story, and overall tone of the game was nothing like BoFIV so I gave up on the game within 2 hours. Later on I gave the game a second try and actually liked it.

Funny as something happen to me too. It was with Zelda. I couldn't stand it as a kid and when I played it later on the gamecube (oot: master quest), I loved it. I still hate majoras mask tho lol

Over the summer, I played StarTropics for the first time in probably 15 years. And yet, despite being far easier and shorter than I remember, I was pleasantly surprised with how well the game aged. Now, the graphics are... not great, but they were decent for a 20 year old game and they got the job done. And the music and gameplay were good when you remember the age and how little the NES era had to work with.

The thing for me is, most people i know remember almost everything about old games...like, what paths to take, what tricks could get you through a tough spot, the exact rhythms for Punch Out, ect. But not me. I can't even beat Glass Joe on Punch Out now. Or get through the first castle on Super Mario Bros. Or find ANYTHING in Legend of Zelda. The only knowledge that hasn't left me is...pretty much every secret from Super Mario Bros. 3. I still remember all that.

There are those who say that SMB3 is the product of the Devil. [/AVGN reference].

But anyway, the original SMB and LoZ games are really hard, compared to today's games...

I used to think MK Armageddon was awesome

I mean I like the characters and had fun with it, but when I got into fighting games much more, I can't even look at the 野菜 thing

MK Armageddon wasn't that bad. Only character I can remember all the moves for was Shao Kahn. I can still do a sexy 45% combo
