Legaia TOC Demo

Post by IronJustice » Wed Jul 31, 2013 3:23 am

Lets call this the super baby alpha version. I spent most of this night learning about RPG Maker VX Ace and experimenting with it. In this demo is an incomplete opening scene, but it will give you an idea on the direction this project is moving.

If anyone is interested in helping me out just let me know.

Okay that was pretty cool. Not much to suggest right now since that was extremely minimal and just a teeny little sneak preview sorta thing.

Can I ask what kinda battle system you're using? Is it gonna be the default one, or are you gonna play around with scripts?

Also, are you planning on using the RTP for most of it? I'm guessing you'll want to try creating/getting someone to create Seru. Think you mentioned that in the chat.

Anyway, good luck with this. I'm excited.

Thanks Zup, glad to see you like it so far. BTW guys, wait for the song on the title screen :D

This is a prequel to Legaia where Rogue is training Cort. The story will be somewhat minimal, but I'd like to make a decision system where you can direct the story to a good or bad ending.

The idea for the battle system is the default front-facing system, as this will greatly reduce the amount of graphics needed. I plan to commission someone to make some Seru graphics (not sure who would be willing to do 20+ graphics though). I do plan to use scripts though, because I have a lot of ideas to make it interesting.

Most of the game will revolve around creating a party consisting of Cort and several Seru of your choosing and facing a series of battles. The tower will have different rooms that will increase and vary the challenges and present you with different Seru to choose from. Also I'd like an option to leave to tower to train and find items if you like. There will be several stores in the tower for Cort though.

Color me interested; would like to see more. I like the ideas you have. Though I was never a fan of front facing battles (sorry DQ), you're going to go against the Legaian grain for the battle system. I can imagine it being much more difficult to do.

P.S. Did you buy RPGMVXACE during the steam sale?

The front-view system is definitely something I wasn't excited about VX Ace. I think an improvement to the 2K3 system would be much better, but eh.

I know there are a few scripts out there to give you a sideview, but they'd require you to make a bunch of sprites and stuff.

I think the front-view system will work fine if you make the battle look and sound pretty. Like plenty of colors during the animations. Lots of sound effects going on. Maybe throw in voice clips.

Are you gonna post more of these little tests/demos along the way? Or maybe screenshots?

I agree, the side-view would be much preferred except for the needed sprites. If we can get past that issue then I would definitely implement a side-view. On the bright side, I played Dragon Warrior Monsters growing up quite a bit and you get used to it. It makes you use your imagination a little more, which I like. For a Game Boy game with limited graphics, it is probably better that way than having something disappointing.

I haven't bought it yet, right now I'm using the trial version. I intend to buy though.

And yes, we will have updates along the way!

Neat... But the RPG Maker sprites piss me off to a major extent for personal reasons lol.

Progress!

Its not a whole lot, but its something. K will probably be happy that replaced the stock RPG Maker music on the map.

Cool. Cool cool cool.

So idk if you have a battle system in mind or if you might even already be using this one, but I found this script that works somewhat similar to Legend of Legaia's (it's more like Xenogears really) and I was able to toy around with it so you could use High Kick, Low Kick, Left Punch, and Right Punch to make combos that ended with an art (Somersault, Charging Scorch, Tornado Flame), etc.
