As you may (or may not) know, I currently hold the WR for the fastest completion of Legend of Legaia, in 8 hours, 44 minutes, and 19 seconds.
Video on YouTube:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NJV1O_H3Lbk (Part 1/5)
I am issuing a challenge to all of you. Beat my time. If you do, I'll give you 25,000 G. Note from the main page that I currently have a little less than 37,000, so that should serve as proof that I'm good for the money.
The rules are:
- Must use the US version of the game. Other versions (JP and PAL) have an easier ROM, and JP has faster text.
- No Turbo controllers.
- Must complete the game in one sitting. You can take breaks if you want, but that will count toward your time.
- No Gameshark, cheats, codes, hacks, etc. You have to use the actual game. You may use any PS1/PS2 that you like, and may use Fast Disc Speed on your PS2 if you see fit.
- Any glitches that you can perform within the game itself are fair game. I highly recommend the Juggernaut Room glitch!
- If I improve my time at any point, you have to beat whatever my time is at the time of your attempt.
If you can submit a video or have other proof that you have completed this task, I will be extremely impressed. That, and I will pay you 25,000 G.
Deadline: December 31, 2015.
Why am I doing this?
1) I want to get people into speedrunning Legend of Legaia.
2) I genuinely don't think you can/will do it, and so I don't feel my Forum Swag is in any danger. Prove me wrong.
[Forum $] - 25,000 G if you beat my Legaia 1 speedrun.

If I had a spare 8+ hours to do this with, I would definitely give it a shot lol. But, I don't. So I have to just wish good luck to those contestants that do have the time (or will get it from now until Dec 31) and I'll keep an eye out as well. Interested in seeing what happens.

What do you guys recommend for the easiest way to record gaming footage? I might give it a shot, but I'll want to sort that out first since I currently wont be able to record that.
Legend of Legaia, a pinnacle of human achievement, will always have a place in my heart

I'm no speed runner though....
Maybe if it were a "beat my Zeto" run thing. Since if I remember correctly, you have one of those. But I don't have the time nor he cojones to do this....
Still it'd be fun to stream me playing.

I use a capture card - in particular, a Dazzle DVC series that I picked up at Best Buy for about $65. But for all I care, take a webcam and point it at your TV. Your video quality will be pretty bad most likely, but it's an option that shouldn't cost too much, assuming your computer can handle the recording & storage of a massive video file.IronJustice wrote:What do you guys recommend for the easiest way to record gaming footage? So, what does turning on fast for disc speed on PS2 do to Legaia or really any other game? Because PS1 is put up somewhere in closet so I'm using PS2. Apparently PS1 memory cards work on PS2.
Also, I'd do it but I don't have any recording software at all, not even a phone. I have no cameras or a capture card right now, but I know I can beat your time. I play games 18 hours a day anyway. (No joke) Play from 6 AM to 12PM everyday. Sometimes I'll only play 15 hours, but usually it's because I passed out or slept in. I have permanent black marks under my eyes it seems, I can see fine, 20/20 vision, but I have dark marks under my eyes that won't go away. It can't be from sleep deprivation, I feel fine. Although I do drink coffee and Monster energy all day, surprised I'm not fat lol. I know it's unhealthy, but doctors say I'm perfectly fine, nothing wrong with me but he did recommend more exercise...

Fast Disc speed seems to load screen transitions and cutscenes more quickly than Standard disc speed. With some PS1 games, the game either crashes, glitches out, or leads to other problems, but Legaia seems pretty stable on Fast Disc Speed - sometimes, the game doesn't load off the 'Playstation' screen when it starts loading the game, but I haven't seen any other issues with it.
