so wut's the difference between this and Metal Gear Soldier and Metal Gear Rising.

Metal Gear Solid is the "reboot" series ('s actually a continuation of the plot of the "Metal Gear" games) that blew up and became essentially the best franchise ever. MGS1 starred Solid Snake, MGS2 starred Raiden, MGS3 was a prequel that starred Naked Snake, and MGS4 stars aged Solid Snake once more. MGS5 will be another Naked Snake game. It's primarily a stealth thing, very dramatic and cinematic (and the best to ever do so), lotsa crazy story elements that're stupid and radical and work even though you could argue they have no right to.

Metal Gear Rising is, so far, just one game -- Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. 's a character action game that eschews stealth in favor of Platinum-patented visceral character action combat. It follows Raiden, but he's now pimped out with the Cyborg Ninja get-up that Gray Fox from MGS1 put on the map. Its story is way less cohesive and focused, because the money was pumped inna the combat instead, but it still retains the goofiness of the franchise.

All radical.

I played this series like once for the PS1 (on a demo disc). I liked it, but I was a midget-brat so I couldn't really have a way of buyin' it.

Play MGS1. Seriously. 's like the greatest game ever made. Ain't no pansy sissy stuff, the voice acting's still superb, the storytelling and atmosphere's outstanding, the cast is top notch and still at the top of the industry, it's a great learning tool for you to learn about deliberation when it comes to writin' and designin', and it should help you with forming Meta more cohesively and in game form (though later titles in the series evolve upon the formula this game sets up so you'll likely find more inspiration there).
