Well there are 20 characters right now, and POSSIBLY a few more, but idk

This is an original IP, so having 20 characters is actually a pretty good number tbh

But yes, I would've made some changes to the roster myself

Game is good bros

Gameplay is great and addicting. Takes pretty much everything that made Smash so fun and altered it to make it fresh. You use the Square, Triangle, and Circle buttons to unleash specials similar to the B + directional thing from Brawl, so every character has way more specials to use, which is great.

Obviously it looks nice. They did a nice job of blending the different types of characters (Nathan Drake to Sly Cooper to Parappa) and making it work. I think on a technical level, it looks better than Brawl (since PS3 > Wii in that regard), but the overall art style of Brawl was a tad bit better.

The roster...some issues, but nothing big. I didn't expect 40 characters right out the gate. Disappointed in the absences of Crash and Spyro, and the including of Heihachi, Fat Princess, and New Dante (Old Dante >>>>>>>>>>), but not so much that it ruins it. They're ignorable I suppose. BUT, these are made up with the game having SIR DANIEL FORTESQUE. All is forgiven. The characters themselves actually play VERY differently. One of the problems with Brawl, imo, were the clones (Fox/Falco/Wolf, Mario/Luigi, Ness/Lucas, etc) that felt too similar to one another because of the lack of special move differentiation. In PSASBR, though, with three different buttons getting special move assignments, it really broadens character styles. Although Kratos and Nariko are pretty similar, all things considered.

The game actually comes with quite a few unlockables. You can unlock icons and backgrounds for your little player card thing that's pretty standard for online multiplayer-capable games nowadays, and they come from every game a character in the roster comes from. These are unlocked by ranking up with a character (using them). Each character also has several taunts, entrances, win poses, losing poses, victory songs, and an alternate costume that you can UNLOCK. Not DLC. (Evil Cole's costume is a Reaper costume...and it's awesome).

There's no story/adventure mode along the lines of Subspace Emissary, however. Instead the game uses a system that's pretty similar to traditional fighting games - it's an arcade mode where you select which character you wanna play with. Then you watch an intro scene (pictures with voice covers and text), play through the game, watch a cutscene with your character's rival, then an exit scene upon clearing the mode. Some of them were very well done (each character's little story thing has an art style that, while still tying them all together, keeps them unique enough to let them stand out more). Some of the rivalry scenes were great, like Kratos vs. Sweet Tooth and Sackboy vs. Big Daddy. Others were a let down. Evil Cole vs...Fat Princess? Really? Also the Ratchet & Clank vs. Jak & Daxter one was a tad bit underwhelming.

Overall the game is pretty great. It is NOT a Smash Bros. clone. There's a lot of PlayStation goodness put into it, and you can tell they were going for something familiar but different, and they did a great job with that. While it wasn't as amazing as I was hoping for, it never was going to be, because I hyped this ish up like crazy.

Hopefully they can follow up the game with a sequel that has more support from companies who hold other characters (like Crash and Spyro and Snake and whatnot) to expand the roster and really fulfill the game's potential.
