A Tough Decision for Elliott and Marienne...

Say Elliott and Marienne defeated Lang and his crew in Volcanic Isle, Drakonia and returned to Doplin, where they then proceeded to join Avalon at the Source Forge. At that point, say Avalon decides to kill Bishop Doplin seeing as how he is of no more use to them.
What do you think Elliott and Marienne would do then? Seeing as how they never knew of Doplin's true feelings toward them, do you think they would betray Avalon and his quest to create a utopia for only Mystics and attempt to protect Doplin out of love for their adoptive father? Or do you think they would stand by and let Doplin be killed out of fear for their own lives and/or for their desire to see a new world free from the humans that treated them with hate?
Of course there's no correct answer, but I'm interested in the opinions of you guys on here as well as a justification of why you think Elliott and Marienne would choose the decision you picked.
