Elfin was the only difficult enemy for me. After I lost the first 2 times I spent an un-godly amount of time leveling. After that, Elfin was a breeze and I was even able to 'defeat' Elliot and Marieanne (sp?)...even though you lose in the end anyway. Nothing else gave me any trouble (though some obscure puzzles were annoying).

IIRC you can knock one out, then the other one wrecks you or the scene ends or something
