Just wondering which way people think is the easiest way to get the War God Icon and if it's even worth it

Well it depends on the player. You can either get the WGI through fishing a whopping 50k worth of points from Vidna's Fishing Hole or win the Master Course after the Absolute Fortress story events have been completed. Either way, it takes a lot of time. For the fishing hole the hard part is getting passed the repetition, for the Master Course it's getting the appropriate level to defeat Jette.

I think getting it through the Master Course is the easier venture, however. Simply based on the fact that fighting is more fun than fishing.

No arguments on fighting is fun, but what level would be good to try the Master rank

I usually wait until Vahn can hit 9 art blocks without spiriting, which is around level 55, but you can certainly beat it before then. I recommend equipping the Wonder Amulet to block all status abnormalities since they don't heal between rounds and you cannot summon healing spells on the master course, the Ebony Jewel to dramatically reduce damage from the Dohati, Zora and Jette (it works better than the Rainbow Jewel, I tested it) and the Life Grail (it really helps).
