Legit Juggernaut

Has anyone ever actually gotten the Juggernaut talisman the real way? Leveling to LV 99 is insane when the game is meant to be beaten in your 30s. Leveling up even to lv 40 seems to take an eternity.

I've done it in a few of my playthroughs on my PS1. It's actually not that bad if you're a chronic grinder and refuse to move on with the story until all available seru at every point in the game are leveled to lvl 9 for all three characters.
I'm currently playing the game again on an emulator and planning on getting it again. I just finished the Absolute Fortress and my characters are already in the 70's. So it shouldn't be too long to get to lvl 99 this time. Especially since I'll soon have access to Crimson Books.

I did it for the sake of getting the screenshot and validating its existence for this website. And no, it wasn't a walk in the park lol. Took forever. Luckily the emulator allows me to drop frame rate restrictions.

I've done it a couple of times.
It takes about 75-80 hours of gameplay to do so, and that includes the 35-40 that you'll spend normally to beat the game.
To put it another way, it takes 40 hours to get to level 45 and beat the game, and another 40 hours to get from 45 to 99 once you've reached the final save point. Maybe longer, depending on how long it takes you to get the other two Crimson Books.
Oh, and yes, you can get the other two Crimson Books, and legitimately. Steal from Puera Lvl 3. But it's a pain in the butt and an exercise in frustration to do so.

I got to Lv99 legitimately. I was playing on my PSX at the time and didn't have my gameshark disc, and the legit way was the only way I could find out what Lord Saryu says to your party when giving you the key to the basement, which I needed for the game script that I published online. It took me around 67 hours though.
These were the stats for each character the battle after getting to Lv99, just for the curious.
Vahn
HP: 4968 MP: 847 ATK: 650 (459) SPD: 465
UDF: 387 LDF: 398 INT: 385 AGL: 280
EXP: 9,646,483
Noa
HP: 4551 MP: 749 ATK: 553 (381) SPD: 473
UDF: 358 LDF: 391 INT: 334 AGL: 280
EXP: 9,296,339
Gala
HP: 5240 MP: 970 ATK: 686 (484) SPD: 372
UDF: 404 LDF: 365 INT: 470 AGL: 280
EXP: 9,996,627
Method used:
1) Fought Puera Lvl 3 until I stole 2 more crimson books and equipped one on everybody (I got lucky and Noa stole 2 CB's within the hour)
2) At lower levels, equipped Noa with the War God Icon and Vahn with the Evil Medallion
3) Switched the command option to auto in order to save a few seconds each round
4) Once I reached level 90 I took off the War God Icon and Evil Medallion as everybody could defeat most enemies with a string of normal hits (non-arts) and thus battles went faster
5) Battled Lvl 3 Spoons and Barras in the room with the assimilated villagers of Rim Elm.
Spoons give a little over 9,000 exp per battle with the crimson book attached and Barras a bit over 7,000. It's better than fighting the Slippery and Kemaro enemies as Spoon gives more exp than either by a good deal. It's also better than fighting the Puera and Gilium since the Gilium can take the most damage, they levitate so many hits are missed and the Puera's have that annoying Death Game. Killing the Spoons and Barras is definitely the easiest method.

Very impressive guys. Thanks for the details, I actually avoided the crimson books because I wasn't interested in gaining levels due to the game's difficulty. I suppose with those items it does help.
BTW, what does Van say to you?

Saryu: Ah, it's the heroes with the Ra-Seru! You all seem much stronger now! I almost didn't recognize you! Most impressive. I expect I may be permitted to give you this.
Narration: Vahn now has the Evil Seru Key!
Saryu: You are more qualified than I to hold that key. Please use it carefully.

Hmm. I actually fight on the outside of Juggernaut. While they only give 5400, 5490, or 5616 EXP per battle compared to what the others give, those battles go a lot faster due to the fact that all the characters can kill them with extreme ease, and by carefully choosing strings of attacks, I can get those battles done in about 52-53 seconds from the start of one battle to the start of the next.
You can use strings of normal hits even at 40-45, because the enemies outside Juggernaut only have 1400-1600 HP
I highly recommend a Bad Luck Bell, which will save you a lot of time between battles, and whichever Compass prevents ambushes (think it's the Silver one).

I usually get the Crimson Books first thing and grind on Giliums. I hadn't thought about grinding on Spoons and Barras. I guess that is more efficient and less time consuming.
But my characters are overpowered with a bunch of Power Waters so they can pretty much take out Giliums in one turn. So I guess it wouldn't matter.
I'm also thinking about stat maxing for this playthrough. The only type of Water that I won't be able to get in infinite supply at the end of the game is Wisdom Water. And that's why I'm waiting to get a few of those before I finish the Absolute Fortress (stolen from lvl 2 Iotas and Kemaros).

One turn, however, is a bit of a misnomer. A single turn where each character performs a Miracle Art or a pair of Hyper Arts is a lot longer than one in which each character throws four punches, and takes a lot more real-life time.
It's for this reason that I prefer to fight outside Juggernaut - you very rarely need to heal as you'll pretty much always go first (even Gala), the battles are very quick, and you can pretty much do it on autopilot while on the computer or doing whatever else.
