I agree but maybe give it a bit of a remix like keep them moving like FFXIII

Oh you're just talking about upgrading it, I thought you mean redoing it in general. A few fixes:

1.) Do what they did in the first game, only show "slow-mo" during new arts.
2.) Allow for a shortcut key on the controller to fast forward the battle (so it plays REALLY fast and you don't have to watch it).
3.) Have an option in the options menu to turn off any slow-effects on any kind of art whatsoever so it's just a sweep through.

I think the battle system would be difficult to balance to not move too far away from what made it so unique and fun in the first place. I don't reckon a more active battle system would work too well (then again I prefer battle systems like in FFX and earlier over something like FFXIII, but that's personal taste), but streamlining and speeding up what's already in place would be a huge improvement, like what K7 says with the slow-mo parts only during new arts and etc.

I think having more control over where your characters are would be a good area to explore though? For example with the seru the ones that hit multiple enemies may not hit some depending on what enemy you aimed for/where the others were. I'm not sure how one would have more control of character placement with the current battle system but it was just a thought! It always seemed important when you saw where the characters were positioned in the little arena before you plan out your next set of moves in game. (hope this all makes sense, not explaining myself too well)

I think I see what you mean. Since after attacking or getting attacked, they stayed where they were, you should be able to use tactics based around that? Sounds interesting...

And about the FFX thing. Would it be beneficial to make it so that when you input your command, the character just does it right after? I feel like that's a good way to speed up combat without changing too much of the original formula
